Navamsa chart
The navamsa: the chart behind your chart
Jyotishis say the birth chart is the tree and the navamsa is the fruit. The D9 divides every sign into nine parts and shows how a planet really performs, what your marriage asks of you, and the dharma you grow into.
Divisional charts depend on an accurate birth time. Kalpa guides are AI guides.
How it is made
Nine parts of every sign
Each of the twelve signs spans 30 degrees. The navamsa divides each sign into nine equal parts of 3 degrees and 20 minutes, and maps every part to a sign. Where a planet falls in that division becomes its sign in the D9 chart.
The count starts from a fixed sign for each element: fire signs start from Mesha, earth signs from Makara, air signs from Tula, and water signs from Karka. Because each part is small, the navamsa lagna can change within minutes, which is why birth time matters so much.
What it shows
Why astrologers never skip the D9
Marriage
The 7th house of the navamsa and its lord describe the spouse and the inner quality of married life.
True strength of planets
A planet debilitated in the birth chart but well placed in the navamsa gains strength, and the reverse weakens a planet that looks good.
Vargottama
A planet in the same sign in both charts is vargottama, considered steady and reliable in what it gives.
Dharma and later life
The navamsa is also read for your deeper values and for how life unfolds after the middle years.

FAQ
Questions people ask
What is the navamsa chart used for?
Mainly for marriage and the spouse, for judging the real strength of each planet, and for dharma. It is read together with the birth chart, never on its own.
What does vargottama mean?
A planet or lagna in the same sign in both the birth chart and the navamsa. It is considered strong and consistent.
Is D9 accurate if my birth time is uncertain?
Planet positions in the D9 are usually stable, but the navamsa lagna can change in a few minutes. Treat the D9 houses with care if your time is approximate.
