Abhijit muhurat

About 48 minutes around local midday, the 8th of the day's fifteen muhurtas. Widely used for starting work when no other muhurat is available. Many traditions skip it on Wednesdays.

Brahma muhurat

About 48 minutes that end roughly 48 minutes before sunrise. Favoured for prayer, study and quiet resolve.

Choghadiya

Day and night are each split into eight parts. Amrit, Shubh, Labh and Chal are used for beginnings; Kaal, Rog and Udveg are avoided.

Rahu kaal

One eighth of the daytime, at a different slot each weekday. Tradition avoids starting new things in it. Yamaganda and Gulika kaal are read the same way.
